Shootin’ Photos of Some Ladeez

Of course the point of my visit to Ohio last week was the Circleville Pumpkin Show,

but I also had the great fortune of setting up photoshoots with my friends Kim and Samantha in celebration of some pretty major moments in their lives.

My best friend Tracey met Kim when they both played flute at THE Ohio State University’s School of Music, and they’ve since started a dinner club together and see each year’s Oscar-nominated films together and go 80s dancing together on Thursday nights. When I agreed to shoot Tracey’s friend Dayna’s wedding next year, Kim asked me to shoot hers, too.

Along with their engagement photos, which aren’t remotely edited yet, I got to provide some new headshots for Kim, who’s a professional flute player and adjunct faculty at a college. Kim recommended the location, and it turned out to be the most perfect place for me to get my Ohio photography sea legs. I think the colors of the fall trees were doing about half of the work for me, but I won’t mind if you give me some of the credit, too.

I’ve known Samantha through Tracey for about half of my life and have loved seeing how Tracey can be so close with two TOTALLY DIFFERENT people. Where Tracey and I were staying home on Friday nights to watch David Bowie movies on repeat and writing letters to Gavin Rossdale, Tracey and Sam were out picking up boys at Arby’s. I couldn’t be happier that she found such a great partner in her husband, Sam, and the two of them were adooooorable this weekend.

Tracey thinks I made Sam look too sultry in this picture, but I love it!

Many thanks to Tracey for introducing me to Kim and Samantha, to Kim for choosing the location, and to Kim and Samantha for making it such a great experience!

And now I’m going to Pittsburgh to see Cassie of Sisters from Different Misters for the second time, to meet Jessica for the first time!, and to help Jessica photograph Cassie’s sister’s wedding. Duuuuuuuuude.

Off to the Circleville Pumpkin Show 2012!

You guys.

It’s Circleville Pumpkin Show time!

If you’ve been around this blog in October of years past, you understand that this is bigger than Christmas for me. And this year, my youngest cousin is up for Miss Pumpkin Show! Clearly, the only way to improve a week of eating nothing but deep-fried pumpkin-flavored food is to add a beauty pageant element to it.

Picture me doing a lot of this for the next week, except with a less-scary look and with more powdered sugar on my face:

If you’re not already following me on Instagram, now is the time.

OHIO!

It Was My Birthday, and You Forgot

It was my birthday yesterday. I didn’t post here, because I wanted to separate my regular, old blogfriends from the people who would track me down and thrust their friendship upon me on Facebook in order to be able to wish me a happy birthday there.

Just kidding. I was just lazy.

Kamran said this was a prime birthday and therefore didn’t count for much, so he only took me to Dylan’s Candy Bar for a diabetes feast, proved once again that he’s the driving force behind Ettible Photography by buying me the lens I wanted, and let me do whatever I felt like in general.

I picked him up from work, we took the bus home, we ordered gyro platters from The Famous Chicken Place (ridiculous name, awesome food), we watched season 2 of “Big Brother”, we ate candy until we were too sick to continue. He offered to stand a birthday candle in a pile of Skittles for me to blow out, but I was too busy munching to care.

It’s pretty great getting old.

Giveaway: Nature’s Muse Soap and Lip Balm

A couple of weeks ago, my friend Kimz asked me for help finding an inexpensive alternative to her beloved LUSH scrub soap. As an expert Googler and dedicated Etsy customer, I immediately set to work for her on both and came up with a soap from Nature’s Muse that intrigued me so much I had to buy a bar for myself.

It arrived packaged in a bag cute enough to be given as a gift as-is, and of course I loved the smell. I have to admit that I was pretty skeptical, though. It looked like a regular bar of soap with a few seeds mixed in, and I didn’t see how it was possibly going to replace my regular body scrub. When I took it to the shower, though, something happened. Within seconds, the slick outside layer of soap washed away and revealed that the rest of the soap is CRAZY SCRUBBY. It was both relaxing and invigorating, like getting a massage from a sheet of sandpaper. My skin has never felt softer, more moisturized than it does after using this. Plus, it’s a bigger-than-normal bar, and it’s appropriate for dudes who don’t like girly soaps.

I also went ahead and ordered myself a lip balm, because I’ve always loved beeswax balms, and I love the idea of the biodegradable tube. It glides on like butter, stays weightless, and keeps my lips moisturized for hours (really). Now I’m dying to try all of the flavors, from mojito to peppermint to chai latte.

And here’s the giveaway part:

Kathy from Nature’s Muse has been kind enough to offer the same soap and lip gloss combo I bought to one of my stinking, chapped readers! I’m so excited about this and so happy one of you gets to try these amazing (seriously, amazing) products; I’m pretty sure I’m a scrub-soap-lover for life.

How to Enter:

1) Leave me a comment. Tell me your favourite product from the Nature’s Muse store (chai latte soap, anyone?) or compliment my glowing skin or whatever you want. Make sure you fill out the field in the comment form with your e-mail address so I can write to you when you win.

2) Like my Unapologetically Mundane Facebook page for an extra entry. Just comment separately and let me know you’ve Liked it. If you’ve Liked it previously like a good blogfriend, you can still get the extra entry if you leave a comment telling me so.

3) Tweet about my giveaway on Twitter for yet another extra entry. Just include my Twitter handle, @ettible, and say whatever else you like. Leave a separate comment to let me know you’re a follower.

Have I mentioned that the comments all need to be separate? It’s so you’ll have a better chance to win. More entries = more chances.

I’ll let random.org choose a number for me on Monday. Good luck!

UPDATE: random.org chose #26, which turned out to be my longtime blogfriend caropal! Congratulations to her, and thanks to all of you for entering.
