The clothes in this store are truly awful from my style point of view–think 70s hippie as envisioned by a Mexican goatherder–but I really appreciate what it adds to the city architecturally:
Our table after a night of whiskey tasting with my friends Anthony, Roy, and Jeff, where we learned that whiskey is supposed to be spelled without an E:
On the railing of Brooklyn Bridge Park after a lunch at The River Cafe with my visiting German friend, Jessica:

It’s not SUPPOSED to be spelled without an “e.” With scotch, yes, and also, often, with Canadian. But Irish and bourbon generally have an E. And it’s not an error, it’s a difference.
So there!

Dang, it really turns me on when you go all alcoholic all over my blog.
That’s a really interesting post that makes me pleased to be a lover of language and an ardent defender of the words and phrases I hold dear. (I WILL NEVER SAY THAT I’M STANDING “ON LINE, TRY AS YOU MIGHT TO CHANGE ME, NEW YORK!)
Oh guuuurl I can booze it up better.
When I went on the factory tour at Jameson’s in Dublin (which was way more fun than the stupid guiness tour, by the way), I volunteered and got to be on the tasting panel at the end of the tour. It was a blind taste test of four different whikeys, and by the end I was plowed. I had such a tiny little tolerance back then. So cute!
And yes. Standing on line is dumb. Your canadian spelling of words like coulour, on the other hand, is adorable.
Love the building! Is Curious Brain the name of a boat or exhibit or something?
Oh, Cristy, I’m so glad you asked! It forced me to go back and look at the other pictures I took that day to see if there were any clues, and I found another railing that said, “TALL MASTS OF MANNAHATTA!” I figured they couldn’t just be random sayings, so I Googled them, and they’re from Walt Whitman!
Stand up, tall masts of Mannahatta!–stand up, beautiful hills of Brooklyn!
Throb, baffled and curious brain! throw out questions and answers!
It’s so wonderful! Here’s the whole poem.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing that.
I love that middle photo. It looks so calm and cozy… and really makes me miss alcohol.
In reality, it was a warehouse packed to the gills, and at the end of it, they raised the entire back wall of the building and pushed us out into the freezing night air.
But I’ll let you romanticize your alcohol. I know that’s important.
Whiskey can totally have an ‘e’! Irish and American do. Scotch whisky is the one without. I don’t know about Canadian. I want to go whisky/whiskey tasting. Invite me places, god.
Oh, I was late. Somebody commented this better. Anyway. Bourbon!
Good LAWD, you take good pictures.
