Butt Clouds in Candyland

Filed under boobies, music is my boyfriend

All summer long, all I heard was that Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” was THE song of the summer.

Now, THE song (and video, oh, the video) of the summer for me was The Knife’s “Pass This On” (oh, I’m tearing up at its amazingness even now), but I understand that my tastes don’t coincide with the rest of America’s except where that one Justin Bieber song is concerned.

So I didn’t hear the Katy Perry song until last week in the gym. And I was like, “THIS is the song everyone thinks is so catchy?” I’ve heard it three times at this point, and I couldn’t tell you how a bit of it goes literally to save my life.

But then at my bowling team’s match this weekend, the video played on one of the monitors while I was in the midst of bowling the best game of my life, and I was shocked to see how cute it is. In fact, if I ever made a music video, that’s almost exactly how I’d want it to look. That’s how I want my life to look.

Especially the part where I always have a little cloud on my butt.

Before this post, I’ve never heard of The Knife. I freaking love that song and the video. You’re so cool and you’re helping me to become cool.

    • Oh, this is awesome. Now everyone’s going to be like, “I don’t trust Katie’s taste at all, but here’s a completely unbiased person saying it’s not awful, so . . .”

Here’s my other favourite song/video of theirs, but it’s all likeable!

Um, you may want to just link to the video.
I was all hype to see the vid and when I clicked play, it says that Katie’s blog isn’t allowed to play Katy’s vids.
    ;-(

    • Weird! It totally worked for me. It must be because her name’s spelled wrong. I fixed it with a still and a link. ‘preciate you looking out for my reputation as a serious blogger, sir.

I HATE this song. I was sick of it after hearing it once, and I hated when it got stuck in my head. Not cool. I have to say I don’t get the video. That candyland looks like it’s *cold* – that’s not the Cali she’s talking about in her lyrics. Weird. It totally reminds me of a book I read when I was a kid about Raggedy Ann and Andy living in a world full of edible stuff and bouncing on popcorn clouds. Anyway…

I’m all for having life look like that. But I have a problem with giant red cinnamon balls. How would you eat those?

If you licked all over, it would get all sticky and pick up a bunch of lint and stuff. You’d probably have to lick in just one spot and continue from there until you’ve finally licked it down to a semi-sphere, then continue to reduce the size from there. I wonder how long that would take?

Hm, that IS a pretty awesome video. Too bad I had to mute it to watch it because I hear that song about 34983742 times a day at work on the radio. You’re so lucky to have escaped it for so long!

    I like your song better.

I MUST keep my kids away from this — it looks like their every dream. Lord help me. Hope all is well w/ you, UM! I’ve been going through my bookmarks – will try to make a better effort to visit w/ regularity. XO

California Gurls was my ringtone this summer, until my phone broke and I had to replace it and got a new ringtone (Need You Now by Lady Antebellum).

Am I a bad parent for letting Connor watch that music video? Because he loved it. For the record, Kevin let him watch it, too. Lex was totally nonplussed.

  10. I heard “California Gurls” the other day and found myself wondering what the video must be like. I’m happy to report that that picture is WAY cuter than anything I imagined.

I sort of love that I think I’ve never heard this song. I really WAS a hermit this summer, huh?

And you NEED that candy button dress. NEED.
